WHY 10K PER DAY?
The original target of 10,000 steps per day came from a group of Japanese researchers in the 1960s who found that reaching this daily target improved an individual’s overall health and fitness. Nowadays, the 10,000 steps per day target has been embraced by global health organisations and is synonymous with active living as the stresses of modern life force us to become more and more sedentary. It can be difficult to improve what you don’t measure, and we believe that having a goal of 10,000 steps per day is a great way to motivate yourself to become healthier and more active. Regular daily activity can have a real impact on health. A 2012 study found that physical activity primarily prevents, or delays, 35 different chronic health conditions, including heart disease, stroke, hypertension and depression.
